经典版《奇异恩典》诗歌由约翰·牛顿（John Newton）创作。他过去曾经贩卖黑奴，无恶不作；后来在一次暴风雨的海上，他蒙神拯救，于是痛改前非，奉献一生，宣扬基督福音，后成为十八世纪伟大的传道人。去世之前他为自己写了墓志铭，碑上记着：

改编版《奇异恩典》
开头视频中这个女子合唱团所演唱的奇异恩典事实上还融合了另一首改编版本——Amazing Grace(My Chains Are Gone)，是由美国福音歌手Chris Tomlin根据传统版本的《奇异恩典》改编，而这首新编的《奇异恩典》也是电影《奇异恩典》的主题曲。
当时，Chris Tomlin在飞机上遇到一个很久未见的朋友，他说，前几天在参加一个关于《奇异恩典》这部电影的会议时，就想到了要找Chris来为这电影写主题曲。Chris听后想，要改编一首非常有知名度的歌，是个极大的挑战，所以他很认真的去作功课，甚至研究这歌的历史。
My Chains are Gone
Chris对原作者Newton做了奴隶后被神改变一事深深吸引，体会到其实每个人一开始都像是奴仆、生命被捆绑，只有耶稣能使我们得自由，所以，Chris最后就写出「不再有捆绑，我已得释放」的副歌，并稍加改编「奇异恩典」，成为另一首广受欢迎的新曲子。
